All MIT students can download a free student version of Fusion 360 here. While Fusion lacks some of the assembly functionality of its competitors, new updates come quite often to alleviate this, along with a large library of free community-made add-ons that address many of the more frequent issues. A beautiful rendering workspace for creating drawings, renderings, and animations, along with a full web viewer and mobile app for showcasing your designs (this will be very important in the coming milestones!). An extensive and easy-to-use machining workspace, allowing teams to easily export designs to CNC machines, laser cutters, 3D printers, and many others. A very robust and customizable UI, allowing beginner users to get started easily and advanced users to create their models very quickly. Fusion works on Windows, Mac, or Linux and has a much smaller install size than its competitors. Fusion is completely cloud-based, allowing teams to easily manage large projects with multiple contributors without having to worry about version control or third-party software like grabCAD. We will also be hosting “Fusion 360 Office Hours” this week to answer any questions you have that may arise. 
Below are some of the benefits of Fusion 360 over its competitors, some resources to help you get set up on Fusion, and a link to the free install. While teams are always free to use whatever software they deem best for their needs, we highly encourage at least exploring and testing out Fusion. This year, the 2.s009 teaching team is recommending all teams use Autodesk Fusion 360 as their main CAD program.
As your teams come together and start to work on a single product concept, it is important to establish a single CAD workspace to manage your many drawings and parts.
